Way of Saint James of Compostela
Saugues is located on the Via Podiensis or “Puy road”.
This is the most popular route for pilgrims heading towards Santiago de Compostela. It begins in the town of Le Puy-en-Velay and crosses the Pyrenees via the Roncevaux Pass.
If you wish, your hosts, who have been pilgrims themselves, will be happy to share with you their experience of this very unique journey.
The Beast of Gévaudan
The Beast of Gévaudan is not, as some might believe, a legendary creature.
It spread terror for 3 years (from 1764 to 1767) and claimed more than a hundred victims. These attacks took place in a vast territory which today covers the departments of Lozère, Cantal and Haute-Loire.
If you are interested in the subject, you will find several books in the guest house library which trace this terrible period for the local population.
A museum is also dedicated to him in the centre of the village of Saugues in the form of 22 animated paintings.
